Division 02 · Ages 6–8

Where it all starts to click.

The years the foundation gets built. Roots kids learn to read Hebrew, learn the story of our people, and spend real time in the kitchen and the studio, because a child who makes the holiday remembers the holiday.

What the year holds

The reading years.

  1. Hebrew reading, by level

Small groups using Aleph Champ, the colour-level system the school has always taught with. Most children start at White and move up at their own pace. See the ten levels.

  2. Full kitchen rotations

Challah, latkes, hamantaschen, matzah. A full turn through the kitchen every month, tied to whichever holiday is next.

  3. Art studio projects

Tied to the Jewish year and made to keep. This is the age where children start taking home things a family actually uses.

  4. The stories

The heroes, the holidays and the history that make up a Jewish childhood, told rather than assigned.

Roots follows the school's Sunday rhythm in full. See how a Sunday runs.
